Penang has the longest tradition of hosting dragon boat festivals in Malaysia, with this year’s PIDF making it’s 32ND anniversary.
The Penang Dragon Boat Federation Committee (PDBF) in conjunction with the 32nd Penang International Dragon Boat Festival 2011 cordially invites Crews from around the world to participate in our dragon boat race which held at the Teluk Bahang Dam, Penang, Malaysia on 11 and 12 June 2011.
Dragon boats are long, narrow, canoe-style boats with beautifully carved figureheads resembling a dragon. Penang is world famous for dragon boat races with the region’s first race held in 1956. The Guam Dragon Boat Federation team travelled some 20 hours with two transits in Thailand and Japan to participate in the Plenitude Penang International Dragon Boat Festival. The group from Guam, an island in the western Pacific Ocean, is among 26 teams from various countries including Malaysia, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, the Philippines, Singapore and United Arab Emirates (UAE) participating in the four race categories premier, senior, junior under 18 and junior under 23.
