Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2010 (KLIMS), 3-12 Dec 2010

 

The Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) is back again for its 7th presentation to delight car enthusiasts and motoring reviewers from the region!

The KLIMS instalment was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha, Minister of Transport at the Putra World Trade Centre. Themed ‘We Care’, KLIMS 2010 brings to the public one of the most elaborated showcases featuring green technology vehicles, concept cars and production models, underlining the pledge made by industry players for a greener and more sustainable motoring future.

The KLIMS is organised by The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), formerly known as the Malaysian Motor Traders Association (MMTA)

Attractions include three future generation Lotus sports cars which were only recently unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, a total of 6 concept cars showcased by well known and established car brands including Hyundai, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Perodua, a 16-feet tall replica of Bumblebee, the well known yellow Chevy Camaro SS and character from the Hollywood blockbuster, and also from the Silver Screen, Gotham City’s Batman and Batmobile.

 

The KLIMS will be expected to attract more than 300,000 visitors and over 200 exhibitors from automotive industry in the 10-day exhibition.

 

Just after the entrance of KLIMS, we can catch the next-generation Perodua's prototype mode Bezza at Perodua's booth at the 2010 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show.

Perodua had showcased its next generation prototype model – the Perodua Bezza and its future green engine the Precious Metal-free Liquid-feed Fuel Cell at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2010! Penned 100% by Malaysian designers (totalling 53 in all, including those from private learning institutions) led by P2′s chief designer Muhammad Zamren Musa, and fabricated in Thailand,

Sleek, modern, and practical – the Bezza concept is ideal for urban youths looking for something bigger to efficiently traverse the concrete jungles of Malaysia and for long journeys.

Perodua’s exhibition, themed “Ecology, Economy and Exciting for Everyone”, also showcases its engine development road map that will revolutionise the automotive industry, in cooperation with its technical partner, Daihatsu Motor Company of Japan – from the maximisation of the current internal combustion engine to the introduction of the Precious Metal-free Liquid-feed Fuel Cell.

 

Proton Celebrates 25 Years of Automotive Achievements At KLIMS 2010.

PROTON will be celebrating 25 years of automotive history with one of the largest displays at the motor show which will be held from 3-12 December 2010 at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Located at Tun Razak Hall 2, the PROTON booth occupies an area of more than 1,500 square metres and showcases accomplishments of the past alongside a road map for the future which will give visitors to the motor show a rare insight into some of the latest vehicles being developed and technological advancements that are normally hidden behind closed doors.

(Above) - Exora Extended Range Electric Vehicle which only recently won the ‘Best Range Extender Electric Vehicle’ category in the inaugural Brighton to London Future Car Challenge organized by the United Kingdom’s Royal Automobile Club.  It will targeted at being commercially-produced as early as 2011.

 

 

Proton has just released new variants for the PERSONA model, dressed Pearl White to commemorate PROTON’s 25th anniversary. It has been outfitted with body kits, new 16″ alloy rims (14″ rims for the SAGA), signature black roof and smoked headlights for the exterior and it brings the looks of combined sportiness and luxury, attention is also paid to their interior.

(Above)- Saga EV (electric vehicle), fully electric vehicle, driven by a brushless DC electric motor and powered by a 15 kWh lithium ion polymer battery. It can be quick-charged in just an hour or charged overnight between six and eight hours, with an estimated driving range of 100km.

Proton's High Five : Pahlawan Series Concept Car, it took the inspiration from the country’s rich history, in particular, the five legendary warriors of the Malacca Sultanate - Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekir, Hang Lekiu and Hang Kasturi.

 

Lekir  (Lotus Europa) - It was intended to fulfil its tag as a dynamic performance sports car by boasting fluid forms and crisp surfaces to communicate velocity, agility and sophistication, and clearly targeted at racing enthusiasts.

 

 

The Tuah is fully conceptual in design that revealed itself in a sleek and elegant saloon, drawing inspiration from nautical and aeronautical designs, and a balance of function and aesthetics.

 

The Lekiu is a crossover concept car that is clearly based on the Exora multi-purpose vehicle.

 

 

The Kasturi concept is based on the Saga, serving as an inspirational idea to uplift the Saga brand value.

The Jebat show car was based on the Inspira. Its design cues and specifications were derived from ‘’extreme sports activities’’, while its reworked outer body panels with wider tracks contributed to greater stability and road presence, and its reinforced body structure was to accommodate the high performance power train.

 

(Above) - EMAS concept hybrid car. This concept car is a joint effort of Proton, Italdesign Giugiaro and Lotus Engineering. Emas actually mean gold in Malay language. This will be the very first hybrid plug-in car by the Proton. Emas will be powered by a 3 cylinder 1.2-litre engine developing 51 horsepower that can run on petrol, ethanol or methanol. While the electrical engine will provide a continuous power of 45 kW and 75 kW peak power. This will take Emas from 0-100km/h at 14 seconds and a top speed of 170km/h.

 

The Proton's Campro (Cam Profiling) Engine - Is the first automotive engine ever developed together with Lotus by the Malaysian carmaker, Proton.

 

(Above) - The Lotus Evora is a 3.5 litre car. The manual model is priced at between RM450,000 and RM 20,000 and the automatic at between RM490,000 and RM550,000.

(Above) - The Mitsubishi i MiEV SPORT AIR- i MiEV” is an electric vehicle based on the gasoline-driven 660cc “i” minicar. It is a zero-emissions vehicle. The cost per kilometre to drive the i MiEV is one third that of a comparable gasoline vehicle. Depending on the cost of electricity, cost per kilometre can drop as low as one ninth that of gasoline, for example when charged during off-peak or night-time hours.

 

 

The Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Ralliart will be on the road. The Lancer Sportback Ralliart is powered by Mitsubishi’s 2.0-liter MIVEC turbocharged engine that pumps out 237 horsepower and 253 lb.-ft. of torque. All-Wheel Control (AWC) with Active Center Differential (ACD) is standard, as is the quick-shifting six-speed Twin Clutch-Sportronic® Shift Transmission (TC-SST) ad magnesium paddle shifters that it shares with the high performance Lancer Evolution. The price on the road is estimated RM 135,400.

 

(Above) - Mitsubishi ASX - The ASX, which stands for “Active Smart X-over” (X-over pronounced as crossover), will be imported from Japan. It will be powered by the 4B11 2.0-litre MIVEC engine as found in the Lancer. MMM says that it puts out 150 PS and 197 Nm of torque, which is slightly lower than in the Lancer, so perhaps there’s some engine tuning specific to this application. The kit list includes Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist, dual front airbags plus a driver’s knee airbag, leather seats, cruise control, auto air con and a 2-DIN touch screen ICE system. The latter incorporates a reverse camera. Fully imported CBU from Japan, the ASX retails at RM139,980 OTR inclusive of insurance.

Chevrolet Camaro Transformer Special Edition aka Bumblebee.

The Camara Transformer comes comes with a 3.6L engine produces304 horsepower (227 kW) and 273 lb.-ft. of torque (370 Nm). Where as the SS specs high performance Camaro is equipped with a 6.2L V-8, 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque (569 Nm).

Nissan Teana - Teana is powered by Nissan’s award-winning 2.5L VQ25DE V6 engine, and the refined yet efficient all-aluminium 2.0L MR20DE engine. These engines are mated to Nissan’s Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC). The technologies combine to offer responsive acceleration and class-leading fuel economy while allowing passengers to enjoy a comfortable ride with no shift shock at all vehicle speeds.

The  Nissan Teana had been awarded a 6-Star Rating for Safety by the Japan New Car Assessment Program.

 

My Dream Car!! - Nissan 370Z Roadster

The 370Z is powered by the 3.7-litre VQ35VHR V6 engine which makes 329hp @ 7,000rpm and 363Nm @ 5,200rpm.

It has power-operated top only takes around 20 seconds to open/close, and is operable by either a centre console-mounted switch or a button located on the exterior door handle on both driver and passenger sides.

Features include bi-Xenon headlamps, LED combination rear lamps, an 8-speaker/in-dash 6-CD Bose audio system, black leather upholstery as well as 18-inch 10-spoke alloys, wearing 225/50 front and 245/45 rear series tyres.

 The ever-cheerful Nissan March/Micra has been unveiled at the KLIMS.

Based on Nissan’s new global V-platform, March will be available with either a 79 bhp, 108 Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine or a 98 bhp, 142 Nm supercharged version of the same 1.2-litre engine equipped with direct-injection and start-stop technologies. Both engines can be mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or Nissan’s new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

 

 King of MPV - The Nissan Elgrand : this new-generation Elgrand imparts a strong luxury presence with a welcoming sense of hospitality and comfort for driver and passengers alike.

The interior offers a number of features designed specifically for passenger comfort that include unique, multi-function high quality seats with leg rests. In addition to comfort, the new Elgrand offers class-leading fuel efficiency and dynamic performance, thanks to a specially-tuned 3.5L V6 engine and Xtronic CVT transmission system with a 6-speed manual mode.

 

2011 second-generation Nissan Murano

It is powered by the 256 bhp, 336 Nm 3.5-litre VQ35DE engine is mated to Nissan’s Xtronic CVT. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS) are standard features, with an option between front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations.

 

 

The Nissan Juke - It features a small front vanity light with a large round headlamp on its front bumpers with imposing fenders that makes the Juke stands out with bold design and strong imagery. The car was powered by and all new 1.6Litre direct injection gasoline turbo (DIG-T) mated with a new generation Xtronic CVT transmission and sports tuned suspension.

The Nissan Juke features “Intelligent Control Display” a versatile multi function information system that provides updated driving information such as mileage, which in turn acts as a central control panel for the cabin environment and for dynamic drive setting. Drivers of Juke also can select their own preference driving mode with 3 available modes mainly the Normal, Sports and Eco-drive.

Naza Kia Malaysia has introduced the new Kia Sorento. The new Sorento’s overall length of 4,685 mm and width of 1,885 mm.

The pricing of the Sorento was around the RM160,000 or below region.

The 4WD SUV is offered only with a single engine option, in four-cylinder 2.4 litre DOHC CVVT form. The block puts out 174 PS and 226 Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic tyranny.

Safety-wise, the Sorento comes with a total of six airbags (dual front, side and curtain airbags), four-wheel ABS, electronic stability control and EBD. There’s also Hill Start Assist and Downhill Brake Control in the mix.

  

 

 

 

Peugeot 5008 -  is a compact MPV unveiled by French automaker Peugeot in June 2009 and has been on sale since late 2009. Five- and seven-seat versions are currently available.

 

(Picture above) - Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, using the HDi heavy injection pressure system developed by Peugeot, the twin-turbo 5.5-litre V12 engine can produce over 730bhp and 1,200Nm of torque, had won the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 2009 Petit Le Mans, the 2010 12 Hours of Sebring and the 2010 Spa 1000km.

 

 

(Above) - This three-wheeled creation from a Japanese industrial design company known as Phiaro Corporation which was put on display at the Proreka booth.
Called the P67b Eternity, this sleek three-wheeled machine with its tandem seating arrangement looks like a land going fighter jet. The front cabin can tilt up to 45 degrees while the rear-driving wheels, which is powered by a 660cc turbocharged 4-cylinder engine lifted from a Daihatsu Mira.

 

 

The Brabus ultimate 112 promises superior performance with the Brabus 3-cylinder turbocharged engine which, as mentioned earlier, produces 112 bhp at 5750 rpm. The number ‘112’ indicates not just the engine output but also the number of units available for sale, making it very exclusive indeed. Despite this tiny size, costs RM580,000!!!

 NAZA Concept Car.

 

(Above) - Hyundai ix-metro by Hyundai Malaysia ( Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors ). It  is an entry-level petrol/electric hybrid concept car and the fifth of concept car series by the Global Design Team in the Hyundai Namyang Design Centre in South Korea.

 

(Above) Hyundai -  Santa Fe. It is a seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle. This is the most powerful Sports Utility Vehicle in its segment, producing a maximum torque of 442Nm.

 

(Below 4 pictures) - The Hyundai Sonata, is set to launch the 6th Generation All-New Fully Imported from Korea – Hyundai Sonata. There are 3 variants available in Malaysia, which is the 2.0 low spec, the 2.0 high spec and the 2.4 high spec.

The new Hyundai Sonata are equipped with new Theta II Dual CVVT 2.0L and 2.4L MPI petrol engines which produces  165ps and 178ps respectively. The engine are designed with a purpose for low emission, and improve fuel economy by reducing the weight of the engine. All variants of Sonata in Malaysia are mated with a gated type 6-speed automatic transmission with shiftronic.

The Sonata is selling for RM135,888 with insurance for the 2.0L standard spec and RM143,888  for high spec. As for top of the range 2.4L Liter Hyundai Sonata, you can get it with Rm163,888 with insurance.

All of the Hyundai Sonata YF in Malaysia are equipped with leather seats. An 8 way power adjustable seat for driver is made available to 2.0 liter high spec and the 2.4 liter Hyundai Sonata. The 2.0 liter high spec and 2.4 Liter Hyundai Sonata, comes with a smart key with push start button and immobilizer where as the 2.0 Liter standard Sonata gets a normal keyless entry with a standard key.

 

The panaroma roof of Sonata, would be another attraction to it’s potential buyer. As compare to it’s class Japanese rival, non of local Japanese car maker provides Sunroof in a 2.0 liter car. The front piece of the sun roof can be open as a window to allow air to flow in where as the rear piece of the sunroof acts as a glass for viewing scenery.

 

 

Above - The replacement of the Honda CRX, the Honda CR-Z. It combined a 14kW brushless electric motor and a 3.0 liter V6 with Variable Cylinder Management that allowed it to run on 3 cylinders out of 6. The production version of the CR-Z is expected from Mid 2010, and should closely follow the design of this concept.

 

(Above) -  Honda City Concept. The Honda City Concept in Taffeta White is fitted with standard Modulo kit and painted the roof top, the front grille, and the side mirror – all in black. It also fitted with a nice 17″ rims and some exterior and interior modification.

 

(Above) - Honda Freed. The Freed carries a powerful 1.5L 118PS i-VTEC engine power. It has a small turning radius of 5.2m that allows you to negotiate tight corners and U-turns, driving is now a breeze. It also has a Active Lock-Up System which can shortens the real time exchange of gears and ensures responsive acceleration. The price between RM112, 980 – RM115, 180

 

Honda's Insight hybrid car - All-New Honda Insight. It is powered by Honda’s new generation of Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) System that ingeniously recaptures and stores kinetic energy from vehicle braking and deceleration, and supplies additional power for acceleration when needed. It consists of a 65-kilowatt (88PS) 1.3liter SOHC i-VTEC engine, a 10-kilowatt (14PS) electric motor mated with continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and a newly improved Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) that has been made 19% more compact and 28% lighter in size for the All-New Insight. The All-New Insight comes in four(4) colours – Premium White Pearl; Dyno Blue Pearl II; Alabaster Silver Metallic; and Crystal Black Pearl. This Hybrid Car come with 16″ Alloy Wheels wrapped around with 185/55R16 tyres. Price in Peninsular Malaysia – RM 98,000.00.

 

 

(Above 3 pictures) - Show how HYBRID ENGINE WORKS - A hybrid is the combination of two or more different things, aimed at achieving a particular objective or goal. So when we hear the termhybrid car this means that the car uses two different power source, mainly the internal combustion engine and electric motor. And the goal for the hybrid engine is to reduce the fuel consumption and to reduce emission.

 TOYOTA FT HS CONCEPT

 

The FT HS Concept car was first shown at the 2007 Detroit show, and was instantly labelled the spiritual successor to the fantastic Toyota Supra. The FT HS is a hybrid super car, using a 3.5 litre V6 engine mated to an electric motor to give 400 horsepower. It’s projected zero – 100 km/h acceleration is within the 4-seconds range.  FT-HS stands for Future Toyota Hybrid Sport. As a next generation of hybrid sports car, the FT-HS does not compromise in its aim of offering driving excitement and being environmentally considerate.

 

 

(2 pictures above) - latest Toyota Prius, evised electric-assist steering system that results in even better fuel economy and much improved handling than previous version . The hybrid’s performance in fact is said to be comparable to a 2.4-litre car.

 

Toyota 1/X concept  car. It is a plug-in hybrid power train with a 500cc petrol motor. It features extensive usage of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) in its construction.

 

 

  Lexus IS 250 - It has 2.5 liter V6 engine makes 205 horsepower at 6,400rpm and up to 265Nm of torque at 4,800rpm. Expected price is about RMRM313,166.20 on the road.

The nostalgic Chevrolet Bel-Air 1957, the , the official vehicle that was used by Tunku Abdul Rahman on his way to declare the country’s independence at the Stadium Merdeka on 31st August 1957. Powere d by a 3.9 litre, 6 cylinder engine that is mated to a 3 speed manual transmission.

But while people don’t go to KLIMS to buy cars, they still spend quite a lot of money – on accessories and merchandise.

The  Kuala Lumpur International Motorshow (KLIMS) from Dec 3 to 12 is a great opportunity to test your photo-taking skills with cash prizes. Prizes are RM5,000 for first place, RM3,000 for second and RM2,000 for third.

But I  did not submit any picture of models.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Apart from promoting greater awareness for green motoring, one lucky visitor to KLIMS 2010 will also be driving home a brand new Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. Among other prizes to be won includes a 3day/2night getaway and the choice of driving either a Chevrolet Captiva or riding a Harley Davidson to their dream vacation at a NAZA Hotel.
